Fire Twirling in the Palace of Fine Arts

2012.12.12
Day One Hundred and One. Went up to SF after learning that there is a monthly gathering at the Palace of Fine arts to spin fire around. Brought my fast prime thinking that the super fast aperture would be required to get those frozen in time shots everything pictures. While that probably isn't exactly true with modern cameras having such good high ISO response, it didn't turn out to matter at all. I spent the entire evening fiddling with just about every setting it had. After a very steep learning curve (and a lot of review after the fact), it turns out that I like the images best where they're stopped down to prevent massively blown out highlights and super long exposure (though looking at my typical shooting style, this should not have come as a surprise). Overall, the night was a lot of fun and a really cool experience. I wish I lived closer so I could go more often.
