Big Island Day 6

2014.05.25
Day One Hundred and Eighty One. Went down towards the beach and pulled off the highway at an unmarked spot. I suspect this is an area that only true locals know about. We went and explored miles of lava tubes. For the most part, lava flows underground. When it stops flowing, it leaves tunnels that are really fun to hike around in. Talk about true high dynamic range though. There were times when a nine stop exposure sequence was insufficient to capture the full dynamic range of the scene. You can see evidence of that in the haloing around the edges of the sky in some of the images. I really need to figure out how to process images to achieve the effect I'm going for without producing such garish halos. But that's future work, and I'm still pretty happy with how these turned out :)
